Stations to Receive a Tax Break For Hiring Journalists

Why do I get the feeling that many stations will try and cheat the system?

The New York budget is about to be enacted, and it includes a tax break for local news organizations who hire journalists at their stations.

It’s called the Local Journalism Sustainability Act.

The act will allow eligible outlets to receive a 50 percent refundable credit for the first $50,000 of a journalist’s salary, up to a total of $300,000 per outlet.

It’s a good thing, but I have a feeling that stations will be hiring sales people and calling them Reporters.

We’ll see….
