Judge Sides with Madison Station Over Raw Video

Judge Sides with Madison Station Over Raw Video

Madison's WISC won a round in court yesterday over some raw video.

A judge ruled that the station does not have to give prosecutors unaired footage of its interview with the victim of an alleged rape.

District Attorney Ismael Ozanne sought a subpoena to force the station to turn over the video, saying it would help him decide whether to file charges for the incident at the Cinco de Mayo restaurant on Aug. 3.

In late August, Cross Plains police recommended first-degree sexual assault charges against a 23-year-old man who has since fled the area.

WISC reporter Andy Choi interviewed the 42-year-old woman, who described being given a margarita to drink until her food was ready. In the Nov. 2 story she said she felt “cloudy in the head” and was taken to a bed in a back room where she was raped by several men.

St. Louis Anchor is Sacked

Screen Shot 2013-05-22 at 5.45.57 PM.png

It's not like we all didn't see this one coming.

KMOV Anchor Larry Connors was suspended by the station, even though they never called it a suspension, now he has been fired.

Connors claimed they he was a target of the IRS after he did an interview with President Obama. But he then admitted that his IRS troubles were happening before he ever sat down with the President.

Connors was barred from posting on his Facebook page and hired a lawyer. It was obvious that this wasn't going to end well.

His almost 30 year career at KMOV ended with a brief paragraph from the GM posted on the station's website:

We regret to announce that Larry Conners is no longer a KMOV news reporter. Larry was a valued member of KMOV for a long time, and we will miss him.
For KMOV, there is no higher cause than unbiased, objective news reporting. It is what our viewers expect and it is what we work very hard to deliver. We can accept no less. Larry is certainly entitled to his opinion, but taking a personal political position on one of the Station’s Facebook pages creates an appearance of bias that is inconsistent with important journalistic standards. Larry’s departure has nothing to do with the particular position he took, but it does have to do with our belief that his actions made it impossible for him to report for KMOV on certain political matters going forward without at least an appearance of bias. Bringing you accurate and unbiased reporting is the reason we exist.

Tampa Anchor Ready to Walk

Tampa Anchor Ready to Walk

Ginger Gadsden, morning and noon anchor at Tampa's CBS affiliate WTSP-Ch. 10, will be leaving the station when her contract expires on June 30.

But at this time of layoffs and cutbacks in media, Gadsden, who has tired of working the morning shift, has no other job lined up. And she’s still committed to leaving.

“You know that feeling you get when you’ve made up your mind and you’re at peace with it?” said Gadsden, who came to work at WTSP in 2006. “That’s what I’m feeling. For me, it’s not sad, it’s exciting.”

Barbara Walters' daughter Jacqueline Danforth was arrested for a DUI in Florida over the weekend.

TMZ, which broke the news Monday, reported that she was "taken to the ground" by police, who said they thought she would try to run into traffic.

Danforth and a male passenger were pulled over by cops around 1:30 a.m. in Naples, Florida on Sunday. When police handcuffed the man, according to the police report, Danforth tussled with cops and "began shouting."

"I was afraid that the suspect may run into traffic on the highway, so she was taken to the ground due to her unpredictable behavior, then secured in handcuffs," the arresting officer wrote in the police report. She was later released from custody after posting a $1,000 bond.

The New Xbox is More than Just a Game Console

The New Xbox is More than Just a Game Console

There was a time when you mostly played video games on video game consoles. But if Microsoft has its way, you’ll do much more than that on the upcoming Xbox One console – and watch a new “Halo” live-action show from Steven Spielberg, too.

On Tuesday, the company unveiled its entrant into the next-generation console war, showing off the Xbox One in an event in Redmond, Wash.  But this is no mere game machine. Three months after Sony first announced its own hyped PlayStation 4 console, Microsoft broke out big names like Spielberg and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for its hourlong presentation that brought forth a “powerful, all-in-one device,” according to the Xbox president of interactive entertainment, Don Mattrick.

Oh No! Not Again CNN...

Oh No! Not Again CNN...

It just seems to that CNN can't win for losing.

Today CNN’s Chris Cuomo interviewed Rep. Mark McBride about yesterday's deadly tornado. A few times Cuomo urged the “congressman” to do the right thing in Washington and bump the relief effort up on the priority list.

One tiny problem: McBride is not a congressman and he has nothing to do with Washington. He’s a state representative in Oklahoma.

Look for Jeff Zucker's memo praising CNN's coverage any minute now.
