Hmmmmm?

The job of TV news is to cover the story as it develops. Back in March, it was suggested that WINK News (Ft, Myers) cover the story in which Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marcino was eying a run for Byron Donald’s’ congressional seat.

WINK News Director Rich Garcia sent this internal email to the staff.

I think there was a different way to follow this story.

Instead of just throwing your hands up and say, “We’re not covering it.” How about sending a crew over to talk to the Sheriff and see what his intentions were. Also, talk to some political party leaders and see what they think the Sheriff is going to do, and what changes do you think he has?

The media reports political speculation all the time. Remember when there was speculation that Trump was going to run in 2016? That was almost a daily story.

When Biden was rumored to be dropping out, there was a lot of speculation as to who might run.

So, I’m not sure Garcia’s argument holds water.

But then again, maybe he was holding off on the story, because he knew that this was going to drop.

Here’s another internal email that Garcia sent out of Friday.

So, did Garcia poo-poo the sheriff running story, because he wanted less publicity for him and help Schwartzel?

I can’t answer that, but I can ask that question.
