Scripps Cuts to the Bone
/At this point it is like watching a person with stage 4 cancer as they slowly die.
As FTVLive first told you Scripps is once again telling their stations to cut staff. Sources tell FTVLive that corporate has told their station how much money needs to be cut from their budget, and the station management gets decide how they want to implement the cuts.
At Scripps’ KGTV (San Diego) insiders say that close to 20 people were told they are losing their jobs. Some of those who got let go:
Lindsey Pena (Anchor)
Rachel Bianco (Reporter)
Vanessa Paz (AM WX & Traffic)
At least 2 Producers
and a long time Photographer
We hear that WRTV (Indianapolis) Anchor Marc Mullins was told he is one of the cuts. Mullins recently celebrated his 12th year with the station.
At WTKR (Norfolk) we hear that a dozen people were told they will be gone from the station. The layoffs included 3 Reporters, 2 Photographers, 6 Producers and an Assignment Editor. “Some of the people were new hires that were hired within the last 5 months. Some of the employees laid off had given years to the station,” said a station insider to FTVLive.
The cuts are continuing to happen.
It’s sad to see good people lose their job, because Scripps management doesn’t have a clue as to what they're doing.
My guess is that Scripps will eventually be sold off when the FCC relaxes ownership rules. I would be surprised if there is a Scripps Television group by the end of the year.
Stay tuned…
