Producers Can Come and Go

I think it comes as no secret that I am not a fan of non-competes for any job in a newsroom.

If you treat people with respect, pay them a fair wage, hopefully those people will want to stick around.

If they don’t want to be there, why would you want them there?

Why have an employee that doesn’t want to be in your newsroom? Seems to me that this is how stations should work.

WITI (Milwaukee) has made the decision to not tie Producers and EP’s to contracts and non-competes. Since making this decision, the station has not seen a mass exit of Producers and the system appears to be working.

Maybe your station should try it.
