Beloved News Anchor Maria Durant Announces Departure from WSYX.

After an impressive 26-year career Durant, a well-respected reporter and anchor for "Good Day Columbus," revealed on Wednesday her decision to leave the station. In a heartfelt Facebook message, Durant expressed that the timing was right for her to prioritize her family and personal life.

"It is just the right time," Durant shared in her post. "I will now be able to spend more time with my family, share weekends with my husband, go to church together on Sunday mornings, visit more with my parents, and will be able to travel to see our son while he's away at school in Boston."

Having dedicated more than a quarter-century to her role as a reporter, Durant acknowledged the bittersweet nature of her departure. "I will be leaving a job that I have loved," she said. However, she assured her audience that her last day at the station would not be the end of her storytelling journey. "My last day is June 18. So, it's not time to say goodbye just yet. There are still more stories to tell."

Durant's impact extended beyond her journalistic achievements. In 2006, she courageously shared her battle with breast cancer, a story she shared with the public again in 2019 when it resurfaced after 13 years. In an interview with The Dispatch, she expressed her shock and slight fear upon receiving the diagnosis but remained optimistic. "I have beat it before, so it's all good... I also have a strong faith in the Lord that will help me and everyone else get through this," Durant explained.

By sharing her personal journey, Durant aimed to inspire women to prioritize their health and undergo regular mammograms. Her resilience and openness garnered immense admiration from her social media followers and colleagues at the station.

Andrew Buck Michael, a meteorologist for "Good Day Columbus," praised Durant's dedication to her craft, saying, "You put so much work and effort into the segments and special shows like the big Christmas show each year along with the fun around Buckeyes games. You will be missed."

While Durant did not disclose her future plans, her departure leaves a significant void in the newsroom. Her departure will undoubtedly be felt by the viewers who have come to trust her reporting and the colleagues who have cherished her presence.

As the June 18 departure date approaches, the Columbus community eagerly awaits the final stories Maria Durant will share before bidding her a fond farewell.
