Atlanta Anchor Moves to the Darkside *
/Monica Pearson, a beloved Atlanta television personality with a career spanning almost four decades, is set to venture further into the audio realm with the support of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC). The renowned newspaper has recently signed a deal with Pearson to host a new weekly podcast and video program, marking the first-ever weekly video program in the AJC's history.
Pearson, known for her longstanding presence on Atlanta television screens, spent most of her career at WSB-TV and currently hosts the "Monica Pearson One on One" series on the independent station, WPCH-TV. Alongside her television work, she also hosts a monthly radio segment called "A Monica Moment." Now, with her new show, "The Monica Pearson Show," she will continue her passion for interviewing people and sharing their stories.
Expressing her excitement about the opportunity, Pearson said, "This is a full circle moment for me since I started my paid journalism career in 1969 as a reporter for The Louisville Times newspaper in my hometown of Louisville, KY. This is another opportunity for me to do what I love doing, interviewing people. After an interview, my slogan simply is, 'You know the name and now you will know the person.'"
The AJC, a 155-year-old newspaper, has been undergoing a transformation to become a modern media company. Pearson's arrival aligns with the AJC's mission to be the primary and most engaging news source for the Atlanta community and the wider South. Andrew Morse, the President and Publisher of AJC, expressed his enthusiasm for Pearson's collaboration, stating, "And nobody is more Atlanta than Monica. We are thrilled for her to bring her talent to the AJC."
In addition to hosting the podcast and video program, Pearson will also contribute to the AJC through a regular lifestyle newsletter and column, which will be featured on both AJC.com and the print newspaper. Furthermore, she will take on the role of hosting AJC Live events, solidifying her presence in various media formats.
Pearson's retirement from WSB-TV in 2012 after 37 years at the station did not slow her down. Continuing to pursue her passion for journalism, she earned a master's degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2014.
