Anchor's Lawsuit Finally Headed to Court *

Former San Diego television news anchor, Sandra Maas, is taking KUSI to court over allegations of unequal pay. Maas, who also worked at CBS 8 from 1990-2001, claims she was paid $90,000 less than her male co-anchor, Alan Denton.

Maas is suing McKinnon Broadcasting Co., the operator of KUSI, and her attorney Josh Gruenberg believes her claim is covered under California law. The former news anchor is seeking justice and hopes to bring attention to the issue of unequal pay in the workplace.

"It's not something new under the sun and if you don't use your voice to try to change what's happening when it comes to pay equality. If you're silent, nothing's going to change," Maas stated.

Maas initially asked for $10 million when the suit was filed and jury selection for the case will start the week of February 6th. Despite the stressful and scary nature of the legal battle, Maas is relieved the trial is finally underway and is eager to tell her story.

"I'm relieved this day is finally here. It's scary, it's stressful. I feel betrayed. It has been three and a half years since I lost my job that I loved - and was devoted to - and dedicated my life to because I was fighting for equal pay," Maas said.

CBS 8 reached out to KUSI and its attorney for comment, but no statement was provided. Maas and her attorney hope that this case will help bring attention to the issue of unequal pay in the workplace and put some "teeth" into California's equal pay act.

"I'm looking for justice. I hope to find it here," Maas concluded.
