What is Happening at Tegna's WUSA?

Tegna’s WUSA continues to flounder in the ratings, and the station continues to move people around so much viewers’ heads must be spinning.

The Tegna DC station is packed with managers, one staffer joked, “we practically have one manager for each employee in the newsroom.”

One insider sent an email to FTVLive, and we thought we would share it with you.

“God, I wish TEGNA would get sold already. In DC, WUSA anchor Larry Miller got booted from the morning news when Wisdom Martin crossed the street from WTTG last month. He announced on X (https://twitter.com/larrymillertv/status/1691909780573430226?s=46&t=G9jfjHbmGdsx6vv6CpIFeg) that he would be instead anchoring the noon, 4:00 and 5:00 news. Well, that hasn’t happened. Instead he’s been doing some Saturday evening shows and investigative stories. Adam Longo, who recently lost his job as Reese Waters’ sidekick, has been anchoring the new 4:00 show with new hire Simone De Alba and I actually saw the two of them featured in a promo spot for the show. But…for the past couple of days, De Alba has been anchoring solo while Longo has been camped out at the Capitol (Longo was originally hired as the primary evening anchor and quickly got demoted to field reporter and then sidekick).  Meanwhile, the 5:00 show retains primary anchors Lorenzo Hall and Lesli Foster. Management obviously doesn’t have a good plan in terms of utilizing talent - it seems like a lot of folks get bounced around between roles.

In the weather center, they’re so understaffed that veteran chief met Topper Shutt did the Saturday morning show (after doing the late news on Friday) two weekends ago and he did a marathon shift with the morning and evening newscasts this past Sunday (Makayla Lucero did a double on Saturday). This week, they brought up Frances Peyton from sister station WVEC in Norfolk to cover the morning and noon shows.”
