Disheveled Albany Anchor Admits She is Scared

WRGB Anchor Heather Kovar went viral for all the wrong reasons.

Kovar went viral after going on the air at WRGB (Albany) and seemed disheveled and was slurring her words.

She has anchored her last newscast at the Sinclair station and she says she had already told the station she was not going to renew her contract and was moving.

The station had assigned Kovar to work a marathon shift that included the morning, evening, and late newscasts.

Kovar started slurring her words during the newscast, but she says that she wasn’t drunk. Many viewers believed that she was, but Kovar said it was exhaustion that made her appear the way she did.

In a phone interview with the Albany Times-Union, Kovar acknowledged she had been pushed well beyond her limit, especially given her recent travels to be with family in Texas and a planned move from her current home.

"I thought I could pull it off and didn't realize I would look the way I did," Kovar said, adding that she had been packing for the impending move just prior to the Saturday broadcast. "I was disheveled because I was rushing around so much."

Kovar admits to feeling scared by this moment in the viral meat grinder. She hopes to find another job in television news but fears the stain of Saturday's broadcast may make that impossible. A quick Google search may scare future employers away; one awful show may override an otherwise distinguished career.

"I feel very bad and embarrassed," Kovar said. "It was a perfect storm that in the end really hurt me."
