Bumped Up in the Burgh
/Alyssa Raymond has been working as a fill-in anchor at WPXI for almost two years. But, she is now finally getting a full-time Anchor gig at the Cox station.
Raymond is taking over as the Anchor of weekend mornings on WPXI along with her reporting duties.
Raymond is hoping that she will be able to add a “good-news” segment to the newscasts.
“I think there is so much negativity in the world right now,” she told the Post-Gazette. “I hope on weekend mornings that we can get through those stories that hurt your heart. At the same time, I hope that I’m able to make people smile by showcasing the positive that’s also going on in the world we live in.”
Raymond is also happy to be delivering the news in her hometown.
Before joining WPXI, Raymond had been contemplating walking away from the TV new business altogether. She had been away from family for about a decade and was feeling particularly alone in Indianapolis. That’s when the “stars aligned” and the WPXI job fell into her lap.
She said “there’s really nothing like” reporting on your hometown, and there’s REALLY nothing like your grandmother telling all her friends at Rivers Casino to check out her granddaughter on Channel 11.”
“It draws you back in,” she said. “There’s really no other city like it. ... My family is so proud of me for being home. They’ve supported this crazy career for so many years. Being a Pittsburgher and being able to tell the story of Pittsburghers is just phenomenal.”
