Should You Follow His Lead?

On May 1st, Chris Licht steps into his new role of running CNN.

He won’t be tweeting during his reign at CNN.

Licht, who follows FTVLive on the social media platform said that he is stepping away from Twitter, saying, “Twitter can be a great journalistic tool, but it can also skew what's really important in the world.”

I could not agree with him more.

Of all the social media out there, FTVLive uses Twitter the most and Facebook the least. We have been meaning to delete our Facebook account, but quite frankly, we just haven’t gotten around to doing so.

I last posted to Instagram 7 weeks ago and the next post was 36 weeks ago. I have posted less than a handful of TikTook’s and they have all been animal-related. Which is basically my IG as well.

FTVLive uses Twitter to tell you when we have updated FTVLive and to post links to some of our stories.

Starting back late last year, I backed way off on the number of tweets I post. At first, I wanted to see if backing off posts would have any impact in my traffic numbers to FTVLive.com?

Honestly, there really was not much of an impact.

My feeling is why should I spend time posting to social media, a platform I have little control over and don’t own, and spend that time on FTVLive.com, a platform that I do have control over and do own.

Seems sensible….right?

I think TV stations put way too much weight into social media and they are not getting much out of it. An Anchor post a selfie and then what? Do viewers rush to turn on their TV’s?

No.

Twitter is filled with people sharing their political opinions. I don’t share mine, because why would anyone care? I don’t care about anyone’s political opinion and I would think that no one cares about mine.

Many on Twitter are so hard-core for “their side” that it makes no difference in what happens, “their side” is never wrong.

That is just not reality.

Was Donald Trump wrong in making decisions? Of course, he was.

He was also right on some as well.

The same goes for Joe Biden and every other politician that is out there.

But, our society is so divided that people will NEVER admit that “their side” was wrong on something.

Don’t believe me?

Just log onto Twitter or Facebook or any social media platform and take a look for yourself.

Chris Licht hit the nail on the head saying that Twitter “can also skew what's really important in the world.”

The fact that he is logging off shows that he knows what is important and that is where his focus will be.

I commend him for logging off Twitter and I would encourage everyone to step back and just see what happens?

My guess is you won’t miss it and you might find you actually enjoy it.
