Shots Fired (A Lot of Shots)

WPRI (Providence) Reporter Kait Walsh posted a video of a police shootout that was happening.

A 61-year-old man that police say was suffering from mental issues and was involved in a domestic disturbance got into a shootout with police.

Walsh posted the video in which you can hear a number of shots fired. In the end, no officers were hurt and the suspect was found dead.

After posting the story, which is her job, a number of Walsh’s colleagues sang her praises.

Okay, let’s give our take.

First of all the “rockstars” at this scene were the cops that were running to the place the bullets were coming from.

Second, there is an old adage in Journalism about knowing when not to talk.

Walsh could have stopped talking and let the scene play out a bit. As shots are being fired, she is telling us streets in the area are closed off.

Thanks captain obvious.

Walsh was also retweeting her own post trying to get others to see it and hopefully do something on it.

Lastly, I will give props to the Photographer on the scene that was shooting video, not talking over the scene and appearing to be at least a few steps closer to the action that Walsh was.

Where is the journalistic love for that guy?

Just asking….
