Let’s see what you guys are talking about….

This reader weighs in the Gray Recruiter email.

Email:

Scott,

Gray Television’s recruiting efforts are terrible. The email from Christina Wilson isn’t the only proof. Follow Gray’s recruiters on social media, and you’ll see they all seem to use the same script to describe the same job openings.

What’s more telling is Christina’s description of that $18/hour minimum wage and how it’s “for our newest employees.” Gray cannot seem to get its story straight. When this was first announced, Gray said the $18/hour minimum wage did not apply to employees under contract. But, according to Christina, it applies to new employees. What about current Gray employees who aren’t making $18/hour?

Gray shouldn’t be so quick to pat itself on the back either. At a Buc-ee’s I recently visited, a sign advertised cashier jobs for $20/hour, no experience needed. Plus, an extra $2/hour for working overnight shifts. And a 6% 401K match. No college degree needed either.

And the brisket is better than any newsroom pizza or cake.

A few emails about Caroline Collins and her new job at KRIV.

Email:

You are right to describe Collins as a "social media sideshow." The lure of followers seems to cloud reality. Does all the attention translate to more viewers and revenue for either broadcast or digital? How many of Collins's followers are actually in the DMA that she served in Fresno? Last question. Is Schiller really that stupid?

Email:

It’s Susan Schiller. What do you expect? She’s going to do whatever she can to boost the numbers—any numbers.

Email:

Caroline Collins is everything that is wrong with today’s TV news. But, the fact that the awful Fox station in Houston hired her is no surprise to me whatsoever.
