That's a Tough Call

An FTVLive reader emailed us to ask a question.

The reader pointed out that WBTV still has Met Jason Myers listed on the station’s bios page.

Sadly, as most of you know, Myers was killed last week when the station’s news chopper crashed.

The reader asked, “what you think should be the cadence here when a staff member suddenly passes -- how long do they "stay on" the site?”

That is one hell of a hard question and I’m not sure there is a right or wrong answer.

I guess the way I would handle it….

I would build a memorial page for both staffers that were killed while working for the station. At that point, I would then have the bio link to the memorial page. After a couple of weeks, I would pull his picture off the bio page, but I would keep the memorial page active from now on.

But, I’m not going to call out WBTV for what they do, or not do, that’s their call and I don’t envy them for having to make it.
