CNN Sees a Centrist Uptick

When Chris Licht took over the Jeff Zucker trainwreck at CNN, his goal was to move CNN off the hard left and back more to the center.

It seems to be working and viewers are noticing.

Variety reports that Fifty-eight percent of CNN viewers think the network has become more critical of President Biden, per the results of a survey taken earlier this month by Variety Intelligence Platform in partnership with consumer insights experts Maru.

Nearly half of respondents also say CNN has softened how it covers former President Trump, while a majority (60%) think CNN has upped its inclusion of conservative viewpoints.

Variety says that the changes by Licht have not hurt how viewers consider its reporting, with 80% saying CNN covers the news fairly and 77% agreeing it can be relied upon for the truth. This is important, as it shows that the move to the center is not alienating its audience base — in other words, not harming the brand or its audience.

CNN still lags far behind Fox News and is still behind MSNBC in the ratings, but it appears that for the first time in years, CNN might be moving in the right direction.
