Big Jump to Boston
/While it is great that Jordyn Jagolinzer landed a job at CBS’s WBZ in Boston, I can assure you that there was a time this would have never happened.
Jagolinzer graduated from Penn State University and landed a job in market 114 at WGGB in Springfield, MA.
That is exactly how it used to be in TV news. You got out of school landed a job in a tiny market and worked your way up.
But, Jagolinzer missed a few of the steps that many longtime Journalists remember so well. Instead of making her next move to a station around market 40, she jumps straight inside the top 10 and to the CBS O&O in Boston.
Her online bio for WBZ says:
“Jagolinzer reported on a wide range of stories including the B-17 crash at Bradley International Airport, and unsolved murder and homicide cases across Western Massachusetts. She also anchored the evening newscasts that were nominated two times for an Emmy Award.”
Does that sound like the resume of a Reporter in a top 10 market? A military plane crash and some unsolved crimes? Also, nominated for two Emmys, for which she did not win.
Look, I say good for her for landing a job that used to take years of experience and stops at more than just one small market station.
But, I think this is also a good example of where the business is right now and the reason viewers have lost trust in it.
Just saying…
