As We Were Saying...
/FTVLive has been telling you about what appears to be a desperate need for Producers.
I speak with scores of News Directors and General Managers every day and it seems not a single conversation ends without them discussing their need to find Producers.
Check out this job posting for a Producer from Gray’s WEAU, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The job ad states that the last person that had the job is leaving for a gig in a Top 10 market.
Now, maybe this Producer was really good. But, I can assure you that it wasn’t that long ago that you would ever see a Producer or anyone in TV news jump from the 130th market to a top 10 station.
How are mid-market stations expected to find people, when the folks in tiny markets are leapfrogging them to the top markets?
Lastly, when the city your station is in has to write the line “We’re an hour drive from the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area in a growing community with great schools and health care,“ it’s not good.
Basically, you’re saying, sure it’s a small boring place, but drive an hour and you can have fun.
Here’s the posting….
