It wasn’t that long ago that Johnny Green was the Assistant News Director at WCBS in New York.

Yesterday, CBS announced that Green is the new General Manager at WCBS. Green takes over the job from Peter Dunn, who was exited from the company after an internal investigation.

“I am deeply honored to receive this wonderful new opportunity,” Green said. “I have great admiration for my colleagues at CBS New York and look forward to collaborating with all of them as we work together to positively transform our business and culture as a united CBS Stations and News organization. I am grateful for the support I have received from Wendy McMahon and Neeraj Khemlani (Presidents and Co-Heads, CBS News and Stations) and am excited to continue to work with them on bringing their vision to light.”

Here is the internal email sent to the employees from Wendy McMahon and obtained by FTVLive:

Subject: Johnny Green Named President/General Manager of CBS New York

 Hi everyone -

Thanks again for those of you who were able to join us for our Zoom visit this morning. I am writing to follow up with our entire WCBS, WLNY, CBS New York and CBSN New York team to proudly announce Johnny Green as the new President and General Manager of our local businesses in the New York market.

Those of you who work in News and the departments that support our local news production already know Johnny. During the past five months, he provided the kind of care, compassion and leadership our newsroom needed. It’s been impressive to see everything you and your teammates have achieved in recent months, from showing consistent ratings strength in every news time period on broadcast, to CBSNewYork.com and CBSN New York delivering our great content to millions of people each month. And we’re so proud of the work you all put in to make our New York mayoral debate stand out as the best conceived, sharpest and most informative debate leading up to the primary.

Now, we look forward to building on our momentum with Johnny assuming responsibility for leading the entire CBS New York team.

As I mentioned during the Zoom meeting and as you will see in the press release below, Johnny will officially take on his new responsibilities on Monday, July 12. Additionally, he will continue to lead our newsroom on a short-term basis until we have a new Vice President / News Director in place.

I also want to reiterate that the new role Johnny will be assuming will be exclusively focused on our businesses in the New York market. All of you, the people who drive our operations and success at CBS 2, WLNY 10/55, CBS New York.com and CBSN New York, need and deserve a leader who is singularly focused on you and your New York teammates.

Please join me in congratulating Johnny on his well-deserved promotion, and giving him our full support.

Wendy
