White Out in Ft. Wayne
/WANE announced that they have hired Emily Dwire (right) as a new morning Anchor.
With her hiring, WANE General Manager Tom Antisdel says, “Emily will be a fantastic addition to WANE 15. She’s a talented journalist and knows northeast Indiana well. She will be able to engage the audience as she tells stories and brings great leadership to the newsroom. Emily will continue to push us forward as the local news leader in Fort Wayne.”
While this is good news (we think) for Dwire, we have to wonder about the station’s lack of diversity.
Back in November of 2020, WANE had 4 people on air that people of color. Now, looking at the station’s “meet the team” page, Briana Brownlee is the only POC that I see in the station’s Anchor and Reporter ranks.
Along with that, all the station Meteorologists and male and so is the Sports Department.
I’m sorry, but I think WANE and parent company Nexstar can do a bit better when it comes to on-air diversity at the station.
