Scammers Try What TV Stations Have Been Doing for Years
/Nexstar’s WANE (Ft. Wayne) reports that some scammer is trying to hone in on their hustle.
The station says that it received a call from a viewer who said she’d received a call and the person on the phone told her that he was from WANE-TV. The caller told the woman that she would now need to pay a fee to receive WANE 15 programming.
That fee was quoted at $200.
The woman did not pay and instead hung up.
The station is now warning viewers to not agree to the payment or share their personal information.
You see, TV stations already run this same kind of racket when they demand that cable companies pay them more money for them to carry their signal. Then the cable company turns around and charges you and I more money.
In other words, the scammers were trying to do what the TV stations are already doing.
And God only knows we can’t have that.
