former Detroit Anchor and News Director Karen Hudson-Samuels passed away a day after she received the COVID vaccine.

Samuels was an Anchor and News Director at WGPR-TV. The station was the first Black-owned and operated station in the country.

Samuels kept the station’s history alive by working tirelessly to bring the William V. Banks broadcast museum to life. “When this museum got into the national registry she was very, very proud,” her husband, Cliff Samuels said.

“She was just a beautiful person. I mean it’s such a huge loss for this community,” said WWJ Reporter Vickie Thomas.

Samuels was 68 years-old.
