Catching Heat for a Headline
/Nexstar’s WHBF (Quad Cities) caught some heat after they called a striking John Deer employee a “Protestor.”
The John Deer employe was struck and killed while walking to the picket line.
The station posted this to their social media:
It didn’t take long for a union member to comment:
The station changed the headline, but not everyone has happy:
Okay….I don’t have a dog in this fight, but if you are a striking union worker, walking a picket line, is what you’re doing is “protesting” the wages or conditions of the company?
The definition of “protestor” reads, “a person who publicly demonstrates strong objection to something; a demonstrator.”
So isn’t the term “striker” and “protestor” interchangeable?
