Headed to Jax

WZTV (Nashville) Assignment Manager Grover Murrell is leaving the Sinclair station and headed down to FTVLive’s backyard.

An internal memo went out to the staff at Cox’s WJAX/WFOX in Jacksonville from News Director Pascale Head. It was obtained by FTVLive:

WZTV insiders tell FTVLive that with Murrell leaving Nashville, there is no longer a Black news manager in the market. “The Nashville market "looks" diverse on-air, but behind the scenes, it’s whitewashed,” said a market insider.

Murrell posted about his move on social media:

Well, I guess it's time to share some personal news. We're headed back to FLORIDA! I've accepted a new position at @actionnewsjax (CBS 47 / FOX 30) in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm going to be the station's Managing Editor. The past six years in Nashville have been a blessing! God has blessed us with NOW three amazing children. He blessed Kurtis, the kids and I with amazing friends who we call family, coworkers, who we call family and the amazing network of teachers, teacher aides, bus drivers, bus aides, YMCA/ Fun Company camp counselors and staff. God advanced our careers and allowed us to purchased our first home! I'm eternally grateful for News Director, Bryan McGruder. He took a chance on me to be a first-time newsroom leader. I pray I made him proud. He really let me spread my wings and fly in Nashville. It was an honor and privilege to be the only Black Newsroom leader in Nashville. It was also an honor and privilege to be one of six Black Newsroom leaders within Sinclair Broadcast Group. As President of the Nashville Chapter of NABJ, I never took that for granted. It was my goal to ensure we were balanced and shared stories from the Black and Brown community. To my NABJ Nashville family, you all will forever be in my heart! You all took me in and really helped me with countless projects and events. I appreciate all of you! To our faith community at St. Henry in Bellevue, we can't thank you enough. Your continued support and love for our very diverse family are unwavering though it all. I know Kaden, Kyle, and Kurtis are thankful for you. This isn't goodbye; we'll be back, Nashville! #loveforever #somanymemories
