"This Debunks Your Ongoing Narrative"

I got this email from an FTVLive reader yesterday.

It read there is a “New GM at KATU (Sinclair) in Portland, Oregon. This debunks your ongoing narrative that all TV stations do is hire "old white guys" for General Managers.  KATU's new GM is a black man.”

Yep, Sinclair promoted Cortlandt Cuffee to the GM on their station in Portland. Props to the station for hiring a person of color.

Cuffee had to spend a good part of 20 years working in sales and marketing to finally get the job, but he did finally get it. I know other white GM’s that got bumped up from sales after just 5-10 of the job.

So, did this hire “debunk my ongoing narrative”?

How many other GM’s in Sinclair’s list of almost 300 stations are Black?

How many are “old white guys”?

Maybe Sinclair decide to add a person of color to the corner office, because of FTVLive’s ongoing narrative? Guess you didn’t think of that.

By the way, I don’t care why Sinclair gave the job to a minority, I’m just glad they did. If more people of color keep being moved to the GM role or the News Director role, I’ll be more than happy to be “debunked” any day.
