Pushed Out in Charlottesville
/Damon Dillman was the kind of guy that you want in your news department.
The guy did it all, shot, reported and anchored sports at WCAV in Charlottesville, VA. He was named 3 times as the recipient of the Sports Anchor of the Year award from the Virginia's Associated Press Broadcasters.
People inside the station said he worked his ass off and was a great co-worker.
But, this is TV news, and doing all that does not mean you get to keep your job.
Dillman had a window in his contract and the station wanted to cutback the sports department. And, despite how hard the guy worked, he also made the most money in the department and, well you know where this is going.
His contract was not renewed and now the hard-working dad with a 3-year-old son is out of work in the middle of a pandemic and not many job prospects.
God, this business can really suck at times.
To Dillman’s credit, he posted about losing his job on social media and he remained on the high road while doing so.
Some people get pushed out of TV and let’s be honest, many of those deserve it. But, Damon Dillman is one of those that should be working in TV news.
Let’s hope there is a station smart enough to give him that opportunity.
