Putting Down the Mic and Picking Up The Cause

At KALB (Alexandria, Louisiana) Anchor Javonti Thomas posted this to his social media:

I get what he is saying, but I think it’s his duty as a journalist to report the news as fairly and objectively as he can without bias.

Once you down the mic and picked the cause he was no longer an unbiased observer.

It is a slippery slope when Journalists start taking a stand on an issue. KALB is owned by Gray, so now where does the company draw the line?

What if an Anchor at the station firmly believes in the 2nd amendment and shows up at the scene of a school shooting with a sign that supports the NRA and his right to bear arms?

It’s in the constitution, should that Anchor be allowed to stick up for that?

Yes, Black Lives Matter and yes it is great to see people in the streets trying their best to bring long-needed racial justice to this country.

But, as a Journalist, this is the job you signed up for and your job is to tell the story and do so in an unbiased way.

Once you picked up the cause, you lost your credibility with viewers to do just that.
