The Best TV Station Group to Arise During the Pandemic and Protests
/We have made it to the best of the best and this is a solid company that showed why they are one of the best.
At the very same time that Tegna was telling their staff that they would be furloughed, Hearst was handing out bonuses to their employees.
As the economy started felling the impact and ad dollars were drying up, Hearst decided not to cut their staff, but to reward them.
They also went out and spent money on new equipment, including boom mics so news crews can keep their distance from people as they interview them.
Hearst has always been one of the better companies when it comes to doing real journalism and when times got tough, they showed they were still going to lead the way.
That makes Hearst the best of the best.
We hope that this list helps you as you look to your future in this business. You want to go to a company that looks at you as a person and not some line on a balance sheet.
When the shit hit the fan, many TV groups should their real colors, whether it was on the good side or the bad. Think about that before you send out your resume.
We are a long way out of the woods with the pandemic and we have a long way to go on racial equality. You guys are on the frontline of history and while your ownership group might be great, or might suck, it is your job to tell the story.
Do the people of this country right. Tell the story, do so objectively, and most of all, stay safe.
Of course, there are a number of TV ownership groups that did not make either our best or worst list. That means they fall somewhere in the middle. They did not step up quite enough to make our Best list, and they did not screw up enough to fall on our Worst list.
Let’s hope these groups do a bit more to move up and out of the middle of the pack.
FTVLive will be back tomorrow with your normally scheduled programming.
