The Oldest News Set in the Country?

Look, we all know that Sinclair is cheap, but this might show you just how cheap the company can be.

As of January 1, Sinclair's WSET in Lynchburg, Virginia has been using the exact same news set for 20 years. That fact alone could make WSET's set one of the oldest still being used in a top-75 market in the U.S.

The set when it was at WJLA

The set was a "hand me down" when WSET put it on the air for the first time on January 1, 2001. The set was originally built for WJLA in Washington back in 1995. WJLA used the set from September of 1995 until December of 2000.

That means WSET's set is more than 25 years old!

WSET is still using the same set today, with only minor changes made since its debut two decades ago. Given Sinclair's current financial situation and the fact that WSET has no real competition for the loyal audience it maintains in the eastern half of its market, it's probably safe to assume WSET will continue using this set for years to come.

But, in the last 20 years, they did add a monitor and a couple of laptops, so that should hold them.
