Scripps to Hand Out Bonuses
/While companies like Meredith and Tegna cut their employees pay in the ongoing pandemic, Scripps is offering many of their people a raise.
Some of those under contract are not happy that they are not included in the bonus cash, but this is often the case of those that are working under a contractual agreement with the company.
Here is the internal email about the bonuses sent to Scripps employees from CEO Adam Symson and obtained by FTVLive:
Scripps 2020 merit-eligible employees:
At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March, the company faced a lot of uncertainty and unknowns around how COVID-19 would impact our financial performance. While we were on firm financial footing, collectively, we worked together to tighten our belt, including the difficult decision we made to freeze 2020 merit increases.
Through the summer, you worked hard to persevere through difficult circumstances, and all the while, you’ve remained dedicated to executing our company’s important mission. At the same time, the economy has slowly begun to show signs of recovery, we sold Stitcher, and we have delivered on record-breaking political advertising revenue.
You remained committed to our company, and our company remains committed to you. As a result of your work and the circumstances above, I am pleased to share that we are in a position to give employees who were 2020 merit eligible a one-time discretionary payment equal to 3% of your annualized base pay. (See this FAQ [r20.rs6.net] for details of eligibility.) The payments will be made in Nov. 20 paychecks and will be subject to applicable tax withholdings and deductions, including 401(k) deductions.
Company leaders decided to make these payments in appreciation for your support of the company during a difficult year. This one-time 3% discretionary payment takes into account that we did not implement planned merit increases this year and allows you to access the entire amount at one time.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for Scripps over the last year. For more details about this payment, including whether you are eligible for it, please review the FAQ [r20.rs6.net]. If you have any questions, please talk to your HR business partner.

If I was the CEO of Tegna or Meredith, I would be feeling really small right now.
Just saying….
