And Here's Another One
/Tegna’s WTOL (Toledo) is warning viewers that starting tomorrow, the station could fall off the Spectrum cable system as the two sides enter yet another retransmission pissing match.
WTOL posted to their website and of course tries to make it look like it is all Spectrum’s fault:
Then WTOL posted this:
Here’s the thing that we wonder about. Under the current agreement, WTOL (Tegna) had a deal with Spectrum that paid them X number of dollars per subscriber.
But, as that deal comes up, Tegna wants more money per subscriber for a new deal to be made.
Now, if you look at the studies, fewer people are watching broadcast TV and more people are cutting the cord on cable.
So, why would you ask for more money?
It’s obvious that your product is not in as much demand, yet you want people to pay you more money.
TV groups look at Retrans as the goose that laid the golden egg and now they seem fully set on killing the goose.
In the end, both sides will agree to a new deal, details of which will not be made public and then Spectrum customers will see their cable bill increase yet again.
They will be asked to pay more, but not get anything more.
But, Tegna will just get that much richer, all will cutting pay in the newsroom and hiring kids for next to nothing.
Is this a great business or what?
