Atlanta Station Fills Main Anchor Gig

At 3:33PM Yesterday, FTVLive FIRST told you that Meredith’s WGCL in Atlanta was hiring former Fox News Anchor Rick Folbaum as their new main Anchor.

At 3:52PM, the internal memo went out to the staff at WGCL, telling them that Rick Folbaum would be their new Anchor.

While the other guys wait for a press release, FTVLive breaks the news before even the staff knows. That’s what we do!

Folbaum replaces former MSNBC Anchor Thomas Roberts that flamed out after just 14 months on the job. Some inside the newsroom are worried that WGCL has hired another former cable news anchor to replace him.

But, there is a big difference. Folbaum has spent the last several years working in local news. He worked at WNYW in New York and WFOR in Miami.

He left Miami a year ago and has been doing some freelancing at CNN.

Word is that when WGCL cuts ties with “conspiracy” Anchor Ben Swann, Folbaum applied for the job. He was passed over for Roberts.

But, when Roberts diva act (I’m not rolling my own teleprompter) and note passing helped push him to the exit just after a year, management circled back Folbaum.

And Folbaum is wasting no time getting started at his new gig.

He starts at WGCL on Monday.
