WLEX morning Anchor Hayley Harmon sat alongside Lee Cruse and she is not happy about him being fired.

She said that she was “devastated” and in “utter disbelief” about the Scripps station sacking Cruse.

The station allowed Harmon to go on the air crying and say that she supports Cruse. Harmon said she stands by Cruse and said in the five years she has known him “he’s never once showed a racist tendency or a racial insensitivity whatsoever.”

“Today is the hardest day of my career,” Harmon said. “I cannot express to you how truly shocked I am at this decision.”

Kristen Pflum, a former WLEX Anchor who left in 2016 to join a Chicago station and is returning across the street, wrote on Twitter she is “sickened to hear how @LEX18News did @leecruse.”

“I will defend Lee’s character to anyone who wants to listen,” said Pflum, “Two decades on TV without a blemish and one incident where he was ill-informed and misspoke costs him his job? If this is the price to pay, we’re all doomed.”

Others at the station talked about Cruse’s firing:
