Things are Not Good in LA Newsroom

After the blistering report in the LA Times about the culture in some of the CBS O&O newsrooms, the aftershocks are being felt.

“This is a newsroom in chaos,” said one KCBS/KCAL employee to FTVLive.

the LA newsroom was a big part of the Times story that talked about the actions of former General Manager Steve Mauldin.

Three current newsroom staffers tell FTVLive that News Director Tara Finestone, who they say was, “Mauldin's pit bull who helped him do his dirty work” needs to be gone as well.

The station brought in Jay Howell, who by most accounts is a good guy as the new GM. But, the scars from the old regime remain and many say that a change needs to be made in the News Directors office as well.

A number of accusations were made against Mauldin in the story and the former GM that “retired” earlier this year has denied the claims.

The LA Times worked on the story for weeks and called many people that were too scared to go on the record.

Often the CBS O&O station sits near the bottom of the ratings and as talent has contracts come up, they are often told that they need to take a pay cut.

“I don’t know how you expect anyone to give you 100%, when you are chopping their pay by thousands of dollars,” said one CBS staffer to FTVLive.

As a network, CBS has made many moves to try and clean up after the Les Moonves mess, but many say that the O&O’s are still a mess.

Time will tell if CBS is willing to start fixing them as well.
