Exodus Continues at Sinclair Station

When the state of Utah banned non-competes, you have seen staff leaving one station in the market and going to another.

Back in March, FTVLive told you that Longtime KUTV Reporter Dan Rascon had left the Sinclair station and was crossing the street to KSL.

It was a big loss for KUTV and a big gain for KSL.

Well, now KUTV is losing another big name Reporter.

Matt Gephardt, who fronts the very popular “Get Gephardt” segments says that he’s is leaving the station at the end of the year.

“I’m leaving happy,” Gephardt said. “I’m proud of my time at Channel 2. I’m very proud of the work I’ve done. I’m proud of the work I did behind the scenes for the decade before that.”

Gephardt said he is not leaving because he’s unhappy with KUTV, adding, “I’m trying to leave on a positive note." And, he added, he is not leaving to take a job with another TV station — either locally or in another part of the country. “I have no plans to do such things,” Matt Gephardt said. But, he said, he will be a “free agent” as of Jan. 1, “and then we'll see what life brings.”

In other words, look for him to pop up on another station. Right?

Also, solid Reporter RaeAnn Christensen also has left KUTV at the end of her contract. No word on what or where she is planning to go next?

KUTV has been bleeding both on-air and off-air people for awhile. And, while many are leaving to cross the street in Salt Lake, no one seems to be leaving the station stations to come to Sinclair’s KUTV.

And that my friends should tell you something.
