Might Want to Take That Down
/Yesterday, FTVLive told you how WIAT (Birmingham) tweeted out the news that 3-year-old Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney who is believed to have been kidnapped had been found and was being reunited with her parents.
The station got the news from Jefferson County Sheriff’s office who was NOT the lead agency on the missing child case.
The station went with the information that she was found, until the Birmingham Police, which is the lead agency on the case said it was not true.
WIAT had streaming video of their coverage and it is still up on Facebook.
Skip ahead to the 2:37:35 mark as WIAT reports that “Cupcake” has been found. (Note; If you don’t see the video below this line, then WIAT took our advice).
Viewers were so happy with the news:
But the story does not have a happy ending.
Cupcake is still missing and for some reason the station still has this video posted on their social media. They posted an update with the video saying she has NOT been found, but it might be best to take the video down.
Reporting the wrong news is never a good thing and it hurts your station’s credibility. I don’t think leaving your mistake posted on social media is a wise move.
Just saying…
