Two big developments within the last week at TEGNA's Washington, DC station WUSA-TV Channel 9.  First is Andrea Roane had announced she'll be retiring at the end of July after 37 years with the CBS affiliate.

Second is Bruce Johnson, who's been there for 42 years, and he's announced that he's been diagnosed with cancer, and is taking a leave of absence to seek treatment.  Johnson promises to remain active on social media.

DC market has seen a few veterans recently retiring after many years, including former WJLA ABC 7 anchors Maureen Bunyan and Gordon Peterson, who also previously worked at WUSA 9.  Former WRC NBC 4 morning anchor Joe Krebs called it quits in 2012.  Former WUSA 9 anchorwoman JC Hayward, who was suspended in late 2013 amid scandal retired in 2015.  Longtime DC weather forecaster Bob Ryan, who spent 30 years at NBC 4 and nearly 4 years at ABC 7 retired recently.  Last year, Doug Hill gave his final weather forecast before exiting ABC 7.

NBC 4 lost 2 of its legendary talents to cancer within the last 10 years... anchorman Jim Vance succumbed to cancer last year.  Sportscaster George Michael lost his battle with cancer in late 2009.

FTVLive wants to wish Bruce nothing but the best in his fight against cancer.
