Bumped Up in Quincy

WGEM (Quincy Media) Anchor Dylan Austin has been bumped up from the morning newscast to the main shows alongside Alexandra Carter.

He says, this was his goal and this is where he wants to be.

"This isn't just a stop along the way for me. This is where I want to be," Austin said. "For the foreseeable future, I'll be here. This is what I want to do."

Austin joins in the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts after spending three years on WGEM News Today, the early morning newscasts he co-anchored with Natalie Will. Before the early morning news shifts, Austin worked as a weekend sports anchor at the station. Before that, he was employed at KHQA.

"My mindset is the same, and I'm the same person in real life as I am on television," Austin said.

Austin said the biggest adjustment his career was when he switched from sports to early morning news.

"I had to be at work at 3:30 in the morning," he said. "That was a big adjustment."

Those early hours were demanding, but working with Will was rewarding.

"Natalie helped me a lot," he said. "It was several months before I really felt comfortable with the new position."

Austin likes the idea that no two days in his line of work are ever the same.

"It's exciting," he said.
