Kent State is taking some heat for putting on the play “West Side Story.”

It’s not the choice of the play that is causing the controversy, it the school’s choice of actors. The lead roles are being played by white students, despite the fact the characters in the play are Puerto Ricans.

WOIO (Cleveland) Reporter Kendall Forward was reading tweets about the controversy and then she added, “with a little makeup, you can be anything you want to be.”

This is 2018 and putting on black or brown face is not exactly the right thing to do and you would hope that a Reporter would know that.

Would the station let a White Anchor put on makeup to look like they were Latino or Black?

Thankfully, the WOIO Anchors did a bit back-peddle a bit after the toss back.

At least someone gets it.
