New News Director Hired in Norfolk

If you go to Tribune’s WTKR website you will see (until they read this story on FTVLive) the station is advertising for a new News Director.

Which is odd, since they filled the job yesterday.

Here is the internal memo sent out by GM Stephen Hayes and obtained by FTVLive:

I am pleased to announce that Eric Olsen will be joining the News 3, WTKR/WGNT team as New Director. Eric is joining us from WCTI/WYDO (ABC/FOX), New Bern, NC.

Prior to New Bern, Eric was a part of the Tribune family at WGHP (FOX), Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point, NC. As Assistant News Director and Executive Producer at WGHP, Eric played a key role in the stations audience growth. Eric has worked various roles during his broadcast career, from photojournalist/reporter to producer. He’s impressed with our news team and is excited about building on our current momentum.

I also want to thank Sarah Wahl for her tremendous work over the last eight months. With a pending sale and serving the role of both ND and Assistant ND, her perseverance is to be commended. She’s demonstrated commitment and leadership in so many ways. Just as important, News 3’s success since March 2018 has a lot to do with the quality of folks in the newsroom and the additional support throughout the building. Thank you.

I am confident Eric and Sarah will make a tremendous team!
