Opening the Doerr in Atlanta

FTVLive was the FIRST to tell you that Meredith owned WGCL in Atlanta had hired Steve Doerr as the next News Director at the struggling station.

The station should make the official announcement sometime in the next week or two.

Doerr will try and do what a long list of other News Directors could not do. He will try and pull the bottom feeding station out of the ratings basement and try to give it some respectability.

Doerr last worked as News Director at WOIO in Cleveland. That station was also to dog the market and Doerr, along with GM Bill Applegate were able to turn the station around.

It might be much tougher of a feat in Atlanta.

First of all, Bill Applegate is not GM, Mark Pimentel is.

In fact insiders say that Pimentel wasn't even the one to hire Doerr. WGCL insiders say that Anchor Sharon Reed is responsible to hiring Doerr at the station.

Word is that Pimentel is so smitten with Reed that he will basically do what she says. She said the station should hire Steve Doerr and that is what happened.

It's a bit scary for an Anchor to wield that much power, but WGCL insiders say that is the case at CBS46.

"People are afraid to stand up to Reed and her diva antics, for fear of losing their jobs," said one newsroom staffer to FTVLive.

The other Anchor that Doerr must have some reservations about is Ben Swann.

Swann is the Anchor that embarrassed the entire station with his pizza-gate story and then asked viewers to give him $50,000 so he could prove how the US government intentionally created ISIS.

So, WGCL has a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy guy and a diva that has the GM in her hip pocket as their main Anchor team.

Welcome to Atlanta Steve.
