Anchor Swap in Atlanta

WXIA is shuffling the deck chairs in Atlanta.

Starting Today, the Tegna station is moving Shiba Russell back to anchoring mornings from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., a place where she started a little over a year ago and left for evenings six months ago.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution writes that Russell originally had filled retiring Brenda Wood’s evening anchor slot. Russell will now be the solo anchor in mornings.

Morning host Cheryl Preheim, who arrived in Atlanta from Denver earlier this year, swaps places with Russell, moving to evenings at 5 and 6 p.m. She recently was named favorite anchor in a poll by our AccessAtlanta site despite her relative newness to the market.

Gee.... you wonder if that poll had anything to do with her moving to the main shift?

And legal expert Vinnie Politan, who joined WXIA's  morning show in in 2014 from Atlanta’s HLN, is moving to a solo 11 p.m. newscast starting August 21.
