Illinois AG Opposes Sinclair/Tribune Deal

The list of people that oppose the Sinclair/Tribune deal is very long and very distinguished, but the FCC seems to care less.

You can now add Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan to the list.

Yesterday, Madigan announced her opposition to a proposed merger.

Madigan and attorneys general from Maryland, Massachusetts and Rhode Island filed comments with the Federal Communications Commission opposing the merger, arguing it would decrease consumer choice and the diversity of voices in the media marketplace.

Madigan urged the FCC to at least delay consideration of the merger until the D.C. Circuit Court completes its rule of the UHF Discount.

Despite the fact that so many have come out against the deal and there is no doubt it will be bad for the broadcast industry as a whole, the FCC is going to approve the deal and send shockwaves through this industry for years to come.
