In Depth Look at the Pittsburgh Market

In Depth Look at the Pittsburgh Market

The company SurveyUSA has come up with a new template on doing research.

Instead of waiting for a station to hire them, they are going and and doing research on every station in the market and then posting a teaser online.

The latest market SurveryUSA breaks down is the highly competitive news market of Pittsburgh.

The company claims that this is not stale, generic, national research pulled out of some book, with limited and dated relevance to the Pittsburgh market. This is 1,568 PDF pages of fresh, local, detailed research on the Pittsburgh media landscape, conducted March 2013, with insight nowhere else found on the Pittsburgh media market and the talent that drives it.

NBC Was Scared of Losing Fallon

NBC Was Scared of Losing Fallon

Although he still had 2 years left on his contract, NBC feared they might lose Jimmy Fallon to Fox or HBO.

The NY Daily News says that among the many reasons that NBC named Fallon as the next host of the “Tonight” show this week was interest in the charismatic host from other networks, industry sources said.

Fallon, who signed a contract extension earlier this week, would have been free to entertain offers from other TV networks when his deal expired in 2015.

Fox News Host: Rutgers Coach Fired is More of the Wussification of American Men

Fox News Host Eric Boiling is not so sure that the coach of Rutgers should have been fired.

He admits that the use of the gay slurs wasn't right, but the grabbing the kids or throwing balls at them, maybe it wasn't so bad.

Boiling thinks the Coach firing is PC run amuck and maybe it's time we start paddling kids again.

The kicker? He himself is gay.

“I’ve been out and proud since I was 25,” Saxenmeyer told the Star Tribune.

What's Up with You Dude? Vol. 4

ra_whats_up.png

Let's open up the old email box, clean out some spam and answer some of your questions in another installment of "What's up with you Dude?"

Email 1 - Did you work with Robin Meade? I ran into her once and she said you and her worked together at some point.

Scott- Being the media whore that I was (I'm a recovering media whore now), I have worked at a lot of stations and have had the pleasure of working with a number of people who have had their careers move on to bigger and better (while my career continued the downward spiral till I ended up at the bottom, doing this website). Here are just a few of the people I worked with and my short take about them.

Jay Leno was Pushed

Jay Leno was Pushed

No matter how NBC tries to spin it and no matter what Jay Leno says, he is not leaving on his own accord.

Back in the 80's, I went to lunch with Jay Leno at a Wendy's on Peoria Ave in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

At the time, Jay was doing stand up and had made a number of appearances on the Tonight Show and on Late Night with David Letterman. For you kids out there, Letterman used to be on NBC.

In those days Leno was known as the hardest working comedian in the business. He would do stand up just about every night.

As we ate our Whoppers, I asked Jay about working so many nights and if he ever got tired?

NBC Paying Leno Millions to Walk Out Early

NBC Paying Leno Millions to Walk Out Early

Jay Leno is getting pushed out by NBC, but at least he'll have a golden parachute to help the landing.

NBC will cough up about $15 million for Jay Leno as a sweetener to step down from “The Tonight Show” months before his contract with the network expires, industry sources say.

The payoff, about a year’s salary for the late-night comic, is part of his deal with the peacock network to leave the show before his contract expires next September to make way for Jimmy Fallon as the new “Tonight” host.

While the payout sounds steep, it’s peanuts for Leno who rakes in far more money performing standup comedy in Las Vegas.

Leno to Fallon: Don't Let NBC Fall into 6TH

Jay-Leno-Monologue.jpg

Now that is official that NBC is kicking Jay Leno to the curb, it's not stopping the Tonight Show host from making jokes about NBC.

“I want to congratulate our good friend Jimmy Fallon. He is a hell of a guy! He’s going to do a great job. I just have one request for Jimmy: We’ve all fought, kicked, and scratched to get this network up to fifth place, now we have to keep it there! Jimmy, don’t let it slip into sixth. We are counting on you,” Leno said in last night's monologue.

“Things move so quickly,” Leno added. “Jimmy hasn’t even taken over yet and the rumors have already started … Like NBC says in five years they play to replace Jimmy with Justin Bieber. They are moving too quickly!”

And finally: “Today I accepted a new position; I am going to be the head basketball coach at Rutgers University! Thank you very much!”

Fallon's Former Agent The Biggest Loser

Fallon's Former Agent The Biggest Loser

In the whole Jimmy and Jay saga, it doesn't look like Leno came out the biggest loser.

That award would have to go to Fallon's former agent.

Page Six writes that Fallon’s former manager, Eric Kranzler of Beverly Hills-based Management 360, is still smarting after Fallon fired him right before he signed the deal to take over NBC’s “The Tonight Show.”

So which Agency helped Fallon get his deal? Find out after the hop

Reporter's Family Sues Hospital

The family of KOB (Albuquerque)  reporter Sharon Erickson is suing Presbyterian Healthcare, alleging negligence in her death.

Erickson, who was 30, went to Presbyterian in September 2011 to have her pacemaker replaced. She died three days later.

The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that doctors did not have appropriate equipment on hand during surgery and did not call in the right specialists when there were complications.

Presbyterian released a statement to KOB Eyewitness News 4 with no comment on the lawsuit, saying their thoughts are with Sharon Erickson’s family.
