Longtime San Fran Anchor Retiring

​After a 42-year television career, anchor Ysabel Duron has announced she’s retiring from KRON-4 in San Francisco.  She has been with the station almost 23 years.

A weekend anchor of “KRON 4 Weekend Morning News,” Ysabel joined the station as a general assignment reporter in 1990.  She was named morning weekend anchor in 1992.

Ysabel’s last day on the air is on her birthday – April 14, although she officially retires on the 16th.  She says she purposely picked that day: ”I celebrate my birthday and the beginning of my encore career.”

You almost need a scorecard to watch TV News in South Florida.​

There have been a number of anchor stations in SoFlo.​

In the Fort Lauderdale-Miami market, WPLG-Ch. 10 recently reassigned reporter Jen Herrera to co-helm the morning weekday newscasts; and morning anchor Kristi Krueger shifted to afternoon and evening slots.

The Sun Sentinel writes that WTVJ-Ch. 6 rearranged its weekday morning news team, having Jawan Strader join Pam Giganti, and moving Keith Jones over to the weekend evening shift.

In the West Palm Beach market's WPEC-Ch. 12, evening anchors Suzanne Boyd and Eric Roby shifted over to the morning show in October, and John Discepolo became a main evening anchor with Liz Quirantes.

​KTRK (Channel 13) led the English-language stations in newscast time slots for households and at 10 p.m. for adults 25-54, and Spanish-language behemoth KXLN (Channel 45) beat them all.

If numbers make your eyes blur, you can stop now. What you’ve read is the gist of what’s to come.

According to a release from the Univision station, Channel 45 just edged Channel 13 in adults 25-54 for its late newscast with a 3.7 rating in the demo to 3.6 for Channel 13. Both were light years ahead of the competition: KHOU (Channel 11) at 2.1, KPRC (Channel 2) at 1.8 and KRIV (Channel 26) at 1.7. Channel 45’s lead among adults 18-49 was 3.3 to 2.5 for Channel 13, with 11 and 2 tied at 1.5 and 26 at 1.4.

WIVB News remains the leader in the late evening newscasts.

And WKBW Eyewitness News has seen big percentage gains from a year ago, which is easier to do when your ratings are low.

There is something positive for every local news station in the just-concluded February sweeps, which saw news viewing levels increase in most time periods from a year ago when the winter weather was decent.
