Longtime Chicago Anchor is Retiring
/WLS Anchor and FTVLive favorite Linda Yu is calling it a day after 37 years in the Windy City market.
Yu who started in Chicago in 1979 (let that sink in for a bit) at NBC O&O WMAQ and then crossed the street to WLS in 1984, where she anchored the 4PM newscast.
“Linda Yu is a trailblazer who opened doors for others as the first Asian American to anchor and report news in Chicago,” said Jennifer Graves, vp and news director. “She set the bar high with her skillful anchoring and unflappable breaking news coverage. Linda has a special ability to connect with viewers on screen and off, one of the many reasons she has so many fans in this city.”
In a note to staffers, Yu said, "You wrote, produced and edited the stories and shows that allowed me to have this long career.”
She signs off at the end of the November book and will be replaced by Judy Hsu.
Back in February, FTVLive featured Yu in one of our popular "How I Work?" segments.
