Poaching From the Competition

New England Cable News has hired two Boston reporters away from rival stations across the street.

The NBC O&O NECN hired Frank Holland from WCVB, Boston's ABC affiliate, as its new weekend anchor and reporter. It also hired Susan Tran, who was previously at local NBC affiliate WHDH.

WHDH is slated to lose its affiliate status with Comcast-owned NBC as NBC creates its own station from scratch using some help from NECN, which is also owned by Comcast.

The Boston Business Journal reports that Tran will be a reporter for NECN and her first day will be Sept. 6, according to an NECN spokesperson.

Holland, who worked for WCVB since 2014, started with NECN Aug. 22, according to a spokeswoman. He previously worked at WGN-TV in Chicago as a reporter and morning news anchor for three years.
