Cox Putting Big Focus on Struggling Boston Station
/FTVLive told you that Cox parted ways with WFXT News Director Lee Rosenthal last week. It now appears that a Pittsburgh News Director is the odds on choice to get the job.
Word is that WPXI's Mike Oliveira is the favorite Bean Town job.
Oliveira has been with Cox since 2005 when he joined WPXI NBC 11 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as an executive producer. He was promoted to managing editor in 2010, and to news director in 2012. He's is from the Boston area, and was a producer at WHDH before he left for WPXI.
WFXT has become a top priority for Cox. They have moved the newscast out of the two-story newsroom and back into the studio.
Word is that they are working on a more traditional studio set that may incorporate a portion of that newsroom.
Also, Cox VP/News Mike Dreaden has been spending three days a week in Boston.
