From the Outhouse to the Penthouse
/Look, let's be honest the July ratings mean absolutely nothing.
The only reason there even is a July sweeps is so monopoly Nielsen can pad their pockets with more cash.
But, every now and then sometime might happen in the July ratings that deserves to be pointed out.
Orlando's WKMG has been the dog station in the market for years. But, the station has slowly been showing some life and it pulled off something it hasn't done since the late 80's.
WKMG won the won at 6 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and noon in the 25-to-54 demo. The last time the station won the 6PM was 1987.
General Manager Jeff Hoffman was giddy in a memo to the staff, telling them,"Your effort allowed us to scratch and claw and fight for every last viewer in this rating period."
He added, "According to station lore (and our research) the last time this station finished on top at 6 p.m. was in 1987!" he wrote. "Many of you were not born yet. Our station call letters were then WCPX. Ronald Reagan was president. Those of us who were around may or may not have sported 'Mullets.'"
Pull this feet off again in November and then it will really be impressive.
