Former West Palm Beach Reporter Trying to become Social Media Star
/Former WPTV Reporter Angela Cruz is hoping to become the next big thing on the internet and NBC's Today Show is helping her do it.
The Today Show is running a segment called the summer-long Social Star Search experiment.
Cruz, an aspiring beauty vlogger, was selected to work with mentor and Youtuber Kandee Johnson (who?) for the next few months.
“I entered and when the producer called and was like ‘hey congratulations,’” said Cruz, who is also public relations and communications manager for Discover The Palm Beaches and the organist of Holy Name of Jesus Church. “I was like, ‘are you kidding me, is this really happening? Is this my dream coming true? So this whole experience has been magical.”
Cruz said she had been putting a lot of time, effort and money into her beauty blog called Beauty News with Angela Cruz and said all that was worth it because of the opportunity.
“I was putting content up and sometimes you wonder there’s 800 people following me, is it really worth it,” she said. “When I got the call from the Today Show producer, I was like it’s 100 percent worth it.”
Cruz said her love with makeup started when she was a child and when she later participated in beauty pageants and became a television reporter at WPTV NewsChannel 5, learned a lot more about cosmetics.
The Today Show is asking Cruz to vlog every day until August while also creating content for her beauty channel. Cruz said her goal is to have 100,000 subscribers.
FTVLive was not asked to participate by the Today Show.
